The skin is one of the first physical aspects of the body to show signs of aging. In a person's 20s, the upheaval of teen hormones settles down, the oils that cause acne and blackheads tend to subside and the skin becomes dryer. This drying, however, promotes the first fine lines around the mouth and eyes.
By a person's 30s, collagen and elastin levels began to break down and the skin loses its youthful plumpness. Because the skin is thinner, age spots and broken capillaries form on the cheeks and hands, depending on the level of exposure to sun over the years, enlarged pores appear, and the flesh around the eyes becomes more delicate causing the natural puffiness from sleep to subside much slower.
In a person's 40s, fine lines deepen and the forehead begins to furrow. The loss of elastin prevents the skin from “bouncing back” and the decline in body-producing estrogen continues the dryness. Many women report skin sensitivity as well.
By a person's 50s, skin tone is increasingly rougher and large freckles (sunspots), lines and wrinkles settle in. By his 60s, the jaw and eyelids begin to sag and droop and the skin is significantly thinner with no natural ability to bounce back because of the lack of collagen, which stimulates skin cell growth and elastin that gives it “bounce back” capability.
IPL and Laser Treatments
Using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) laser treatments with the Nd: YAG Long/Short Pulse and Alexandrite Long Pulse in combination with other anti-aging technologies offered by Regenesis, Dr. Charles Lee will help slow, and in some cases reverse some of the damage caused by the skin-aging process. Designed to offer more youthful, supple skin, laser skin treatments can stimulate collagen and skin cell growth, and remove dead and damaged skin:
Skin discolorations & damage
Port wine stains (flat purple or red vascular lesions)
The YAG 1064 Laser
This treatment consists of the long-pulsed Nd: YAG 1064 nm laser, which is especially effective on spider vein treatments because it uses a beam of light to deliver a prescribed dose of energy deep into the lower dermis, "selectively coagulating” the leaking blood that causes all types of varicose and spider veins, without affecting surrounding areas. Most often used on extremities like the legs, it has also been over 78 percent effective at removing nasal telangiectasias, the red vein-like blood vessels on the nose and inside the nasal cavity.
The Nd: YAG 1064 LP is also able to reach deeply into the dermis to correct conditions caused by broken dermal capillaries like rosacea and facial flushing. Because it can penetrate throughout the dermis where wrinkles reside, it can correct fine wrinkles and depressed scars as well.
As a “directed energy” treatment in the short pulse mode, it triggers the formulation of new collagen by generating measured heat-damage in the dermis and is significantly safer for dark skinned people because it bypasses the outer layer of skin making it less likely to cause pigmentation changes. It is also Dr. Lee’s choice for hair removal in these individuals.
The IPL Nonsurgical Face Lift
The non-invasive IPL treatment processes have been so effective in such a wide range of facial rejuvenation treatments that it has been referred to as an “IPL Laser Nonsurgical Face Lift.” One study actually found a change to a younger genetic expression in the skin after treatment.
Depending on the condition and amount of damage, IPL treatments produce some immediate results with lasting effects noticeable in three to four weeks. Although patients report slightly more pain when applied to facial areas around the nose and cheeks, most people describe the pain as a series of rubber band snaps or slight pin pricks to the skin and the procedures rarely require anesthetic. Patients can continue normal activities immediately after treatments.
